West Asia Conflict: Smoke was seen billowing from the US Embassy in Kuwait after it was struck by drones reportedly launched by Iran, news agency AFP reported, citing sources.

One Kuwait-based diplomat and a Western diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the embassy had been damaged by a number of drones. A second Kuwait-based diplomat said the embassy building was struck directly in the attack.

An AFP correspondent reported seeing smoke billowing from the compound on Monday, Iran’s third day of retaliatory Gulf attacks. The embassy later warned of “a continuing threat of missile and UAV (drone) attacks over Kuwait" and urged people not to come to the facility.

A witness told news agency Reuters that firefighters and ambulances were present at the scene on Monday as emergency services responded to the situation.

The embassy issued a shelter-in-place warning to American citizens in Kuwait, instructing them to remain indoors and review their security plans in case of further attacks. Embassy personnel were also sheltering in place.

Authorities advised residents to stay inside, move to the lowest available floor of their residences, remain away from windows and exterior walls, and avoid going outdoors. The embassy said those who hear explosions or sirens should seek immediate cover. People inside buildings were told to move to the lowest level with the fewest exterior walls, close doors, and sit near an interior wall away from windows or openings.

Those caught outside were advised to seek shelter in a hardened structure or lie down and cover their heads if no shelter was available. Officials also warned that falling debris from intercepted missiles or drones could pose serious risks. Residents were urged to stay away from debris and monitor major news outlets for official guidance following any attack.
