The strikes form part of a broader campaign targeting Iran’s military infrastructure. On March 20, US forces also used bunker-buster munitions to hit a major ballistic missile manufacturing and storage facility near Isfahan. The site was described by Pentagon officials as a critical hub for Iran’s long-range missile programme and was believed to house Khaibar-Shekan and Shahab-3 missiles.
On Friday, the CENTCOM also shared satellite images showing the destruction at Iran’s Karaj Surface-to-Surface Missile Plant after the US strikes. As per CENTCOM, this plant was being used to assemble ballistic missiles.
Satellite footage published by US force showed the Iranian Karaj Surface-to-Surface Missile Plant on March 1, before the US strikes, and again last week, after US forces struck the facility with precision munitions. It noted that the Iranian regime used the Karaj plant to assemble ballistic missiles that threatened Americans, neighbouring countries, and commercial shipping, according to a report by Israel National News.
The Iran war sharply escalated with direct US and Israeli strikes on Iran and retaliatory missile attacks across Israel and Gulf states. The conflict between Iran and Israel entered its 22nd day on Saturday, with both sides intensifying military operations.
The conflict was fueled after Iran’s South Pars gas field, one of the world’s largest, was attacked by Israeli forces. In retaliation, Tehran struck Qatar and fired missiles at Saudi Arabia after vowing attacks on oil and gas targets throughout the Gulf. Qatar’s state oil giant reported “extensive damage" at the Ras Laffan Industrial City after an Iranian missile attack.
According to Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, the US-Israeli attacks on Iran have killed more than 1,300 people, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and top Iranian officials.
The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) has warned that the toll may be even higher, estimating at least 1,858 people have been killed, including both civilians and military personnel.
