The British prime minister also said the United Kingdom will work with its allies to develop a “viable collective plan" aimed at restoring safe navigation for ships near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important maritime routes for energy supplies.
“So we’re working with all of our allies, including our European partners, to bring together a viable collective plan that can restore freedom of navigation in the region as quickly as possible and ease the economic impact."
He also mentioned that Britain is working with its international partners on a coordinated plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restore freedom of navigation in the region.
“Ultimately, we have to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to ensure stability in the (oil) market. That is not a simple task," Starmer said.
The Strait of Hormuz has been under close global scrutiny due to escalating tensions in the West Asia, which have raised concerns about disruptions to shipping and global oil trade.
Starmer’s remarks signal that London is looking at both diplomatic engagement and coordinated action with international partners to ensure the security of maritime routes in the region.
