Pakistan’s military chief Field Marshal Asim Munir has criticised his top generals, questioning their competence and intelligence failures amid the ongoing conflict with Afghanistan and the lack of success in targeting key militant leaders.

According to exclusive inputs accessed by CNN-News18, a high-level military huddle was held on Monday where Munir raised questions before senior leadership, including Director-General of Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Asim Malik , Director-General Military Intelligence Major General Wajid Aziz and Pakistan Air Force (PAF) chief Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu.

A top Intelligence source told CNN-News18 that Munir used “strong and harsh words" against intelligence heads, demanding answers on why Pakistan’s “enemy number one" — Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Noor Wali Mehsud — has not yet been eliminated.

Munir reportedly asked, “Where is Pakistan’s enemy number one? What is our ground intelligence doing?" as he pressed both the ISI and Military Intelligence over the lack of high-value targets.

The criticism comes 18 days after the launch of Operation Ghazab-Lil-Haq, with Munir openly questioning why the operation has failed to deliver major results. He is learnt to have admitted in the meeting that even a single significant militant target has not been neutralised so far.

He also issued a stern ultimatum to operational and intelligence heads, directing them to “find, eliminate and deliver results" under the ongoing offensive.

Operation Ghazab-Lil-Haq, launched on February 26, is a major Pakistani military offensive involving air strikes and ground operations against targets inside Afghanistan. The operation was initiated in response to alleged cross-border attacks by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Despite Pakistan’s claims of hitting multiple targets, including installations in Kabul, Kandahar and Nangarhar, the lack of high-profile eliminations appears to have triggered frustration within the top brass.

The meeting also discussed mounting international pressure for a ceasefire with the Afghan Taliban, with countries such as China, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Indonesia and Malaysia urging restraint.

Soon after the high-level meeting, Pakistani forces carried out massive air strikes across several Afghan cities, including Kabul, Kandahar and Nangarhar, resulting in multiple casualties.
