US President Donald Trump said that Cuba is on the verge of collapse and that he plans to send Secretary of State Marco Rubio there- remarks that signal Washington’s ambitions may extend well beyond the current war with Iran.

“Cuba is gonna fall pretty soon," Trump told CNN, adding, “I’m gonna put Marco over there. We’ve got plenty of time, but Cuba’s ready."

Cuba has been under US sanctions for over six decades. The communist government, led by President Miguel Diaz-Canel, has faced growing domestic unrest in recent years, with widespread protests in 2021 marking the most significant public dissent the island had seen in a generation.

What Trump Said On Iran War

The Cuba remarks came during a wide-ranging CNN interview in which Trump also addressed the ongoing conflict with Iran, rating the US military performance a “12 or 15 out of 10."

“We’re doing very well militarily – better than anybody could have even dreamed," he said.

On Gulf Arab states coming under Iranian attack, Trump said Tehran “made a terrible mistake when they attacked them" and that those countries were “doing unbelievable".

On the question of who leads Iran after the war, Trump said it “is going to work like it did in Venezuela" and that whoever takes over needs to “treat the United States and Israel well."

Asked about rising fuel prices- a direct consequence of disruption to Gulf energy supplies and the growing threat to the Strait of Hormuz- Trump was dismissive.

“That’s alright, it’ll be short term, it’ll go way down very quickly," he said.
